چکیده

Abstract The generalization of the two-loop Pinch Technique to the Electroweak Sector of the Standard Model is presented. We restrict ourselves to the case of conserved external currents, and provide a detailed analysis of both the charged and neutral sectors. The crucial ingredient for this construction is the identification of the parts discarded during the pinching procedure with well-defined contributions to the Slavnov-Taylor identity satisfied by the off-shell one-loop gauge-boson vertices; the latter are nested inside the conventional two-loop self-energies. It is shown by resorting to a set of powerful identities that the two-loop effective Pinch Technique self-energies coincide with the corresponding ones computed in the Background Feynman gauge. The aforementioned identities are derived in the context of the Batalin-Vilkovisky formalism, a fact which enables the individual treatment of the self-energies of the photon and the Z-boson. Some possible phenomenological applications are briefly discussed.

Electroweak pinch technique to all orders

The generalization of the pinch technique to all orders in the electroweak sector of the Standard Model within the class of the renormalizable ’t Hooft gauges, is presented. In particular, both the all-order PT gauge-boson– and scalar–fermions vertices, as well as the diagonal and mixed gauge-boson and scalar self-energies are explicitly constructed. This is achieved through the generalization ...

Electroweak Effective Charges and their relation to Physical Cross Sections

In quantum electrodynamics with fermions f = e, μ . . . , knowledge of the vacuum polarization spectral function determined from the tree level ee → ff cross sections, together with a single low energy measurement of the fine structure constant α, enables the construction of the one–loop effective charge αeff(q ) for all q. It is shown how an identical procedure can be followed in the electrowe...

Pinch Technique: Theory and Applications

We review the theoretical foundations and the most important physical applications of the Pinch Technique (PT). This general method allows the construction of off-shell Green’s functions in non-Abelian gauge theories that are independent of the gauge-fixing parameter and satisfy ghost-free Ward identities. We first present the diagrammatic formulation of the technique in QCD, deriving at one lo...

Two-loop electroweak corrections to the rho parameter beyond the leading approximation.

We show that in the framework of the pinch technique the universal part of the parameter can be meaningfully de ned, beyond one loop. The universal part so obtained satis es the crucial requirements of gauge-independence, niteness, and process-independence, even when subleading contributions of the top quark are included. The mechanism which enforces the aforementioned properties is explained i...

Two - loop electroweak corrections at high energies †

We discuss two-loop leading and angular-dependent next-to-leading logarithmic electroweak virtual corrections to arbitrary processes at energies above the electroweak scale. The relevant Feynman diagrams involving soft-collinear gauge bosons γ,Z,W have been evaluated in eikonal approximation. We present results obtained from the analytic evaluation of massive loop integrals. To isolate mass sin...
